The Patrol Division is the uniformed division of the Sheriff's Office. Deputies patrol all areas of the county and respond to reports of crime, citizen complaints, motor vehicle crashes, and other requests for service. Our deputies are fully trained in all aspects of general law enforcement and capable of initiating investigations of all types of crimes or incidents. Deputies also serve civil papers and enforce traffic laws.
All sworn members of the Sheriff's Office are required to be certified by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Certification is only obtained after completing a sixteen week training academy and field training. Field training is conducted by an experienced, specially trained, Field Training Officer. This extensive training normally takes from 10 to 12 months.
All deputies have the opportunity to apply for assignment as a detective, marine deputy, or narcotics detective. These opportunities provide for additional training which enhances a members career opportunities and professionalism.
The Patrol Division is managed by the Chief Deputy and shift supervision is provided by three Sergeants. Patrol Sergeants supervise the patrol deputies on duty as well as the Communications Center, Marine Patrol, Reserve Deputies and Resource Enforcement Deputies on their respective shifts.
The Sheriff's Office maintains a highly trained, professional staff. The Sheriff invites all citizens to provide input and feedback which enhances our professional standards. This may be done by calling (541) 506-2580 during normal business hours.
