Administration and Support Service FAQs

Q. How do I get my road improved?
A. A Local Improvement District (LID) can assist you with improving the road in front of your home. An LID is a district created by a local government (Wasco County) to raise the cost of public improvements (roads) from the owners that will benefit from the improvements. Call, write, or visit our office for further information.

Q. What is a road vacation and how is it done?
A. A vacation is a legal abandonment, or reduction in size or status, of a public right-of-way (including a County Road). You have the right to request a vacation if the road or right-of-way is on or abuts you property. You may file the Petition with Wasco County.

Q. Do you have an Adopt A Highway program?
A. We do not currently have an adopt a highway program.

Q. Can I get the County to put Dust Palliative on my road or driveway?
A. The short answer is no. The County has performed dust control on certain county roads over the years. At one time the dust palliative was available to us free. We have since had to pay for the material and the cost has steadily risen.

Q. Why are you paving that road? Don't you know that (insert road name) is in a lot worse condition?
A. Road paving decisions are made based on many different factors. The primary factor is the condition of the road segment. Some road segments are in "poor" condition and shouldn't be overlaid. These poor road segments must be reconstructed. Paving a road that may look pretty good extends the life of the road segment at a much lower cost than reconstruction.

Q. Why won't the Road Department won't fix my road?
A. The Wasco County Road Division is responsible for the maintenance of over xxxx miles of road and over xxx bridges. We only maintain roads that are accepted into the County Road System. "County Roads" are roads that have been accepted by the County Court for county maintenance. If we are not maintaining your road then it may be a local access road, private road, city street, or state highway.

Q. What is a "local access" road?
A. "Local access road" means a public road that is not a county road, state highway or federal road. Local access roads are roads that have been dedicated to the public but not accepted by the County for maintenance. Local access roads can be improved through the LID process.
