Policy on Education and Training

December 18, 1997

As per Wasco County Department Head discussion. . .

Attending college classes or other training courses generally falls under the following two categories:

  1. Classes which an employee requests to attend and the County department head agrees to fund. In this circumstance the employee is expected to enroll in the class, pay for the class, and attend the class on his or her own time, unless otherwise agreed upon by the department head. After the employee successfully passes the class, the County will reimburse enrollment costs to the employee.
  2. Classes which the County department head asks an employee to take a class, which will benefit the County. In this situation the County will pay for the cost of enrollment up front. The employee may attend the class on County time. The employee can be reimbursed monetarily or by compensatory time, depending upon individual departmental policy.

Variations upon this policy are up to the department head, in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and County Court.
