Wasco County Oregon :: Public Works :: Administration and Support

For decades Wasco County Road Department, now Wasco County Public Works Department, has employed college students for summer work. This program is generally designed to employ students pursuing engineering careers. Summer students will be doing a wide variety of work. Some may be a part of the survey crew, others may spend most of the summer as flaggers, and some may end up operating equipment.

Our general guidelines for the program are:

Applicants are required to submit a written resume along with the standard county application form (available at the Department of Employee and Administrative Services in the courthouse).
Applications should be made during, or before, Spring Break.
The county will usually hire 3 to 4 students.
Possession of a valid Flagger card, prior to applying, is highly desirable
We look for applicants who are actively attending college and have completed their freshman year.

Priority is given to:

Returning students (ie. those who worked here before)
Civil Engineering students (as an informal internship)
Other engineering students
Other college students

We are proud of the success experienced by most of our former summer students. Many fine young men and women have gone on to careers as engineers, land surveyors, teachers, policemen, and a variety of other solid positions.
